THE BALINESE CALENDER
On Bali one uses the Pawukon calender. This calender has been brought to Bali in the fourteenth century by Hindus who fled from Java.
A Pawukon year consists of 210 days. The Balinese have weeks of 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, 7 days, 8 days, 9 days en 10 days. All these weeks are running at the same time. Therefore a certain day will have a name according to the week of 1 day, the week of w days, the week of 3 days and so on. In this manner a certain day can have 10 different names.
YOUR BALINESE SIGN
Balinese Astrology is based on the calender of five and seven days. One looks at the day according to the day according to the calender of five and to the calender of seven days. In this manner you get 5 * 7 signs.
The calender of seven days does not give problems, because that calender matches our calender of 7 days. Finding the day according to the calender of five days is more difficult.

First step: birth information
Please write an email to roeland@dirah.org
In that email mention:
1. Your name.
2. Your birth data (day of birth, month of birth, year of birth, town of birth (in case it is a small town place mention the nearest city), state of birth, country of birth. To prevent confusion please write the name of the month in full. For example not 3 but March.

THE DESCRIPTION OF YOUR BALINESE SIGN
A description of a Balinese sign consists out of:
1. A symbol called the Bintang. The symbols are shown on the figure you see below.
2. A description according to the first list of characteristics. This is a list of 10 characteristics that start with Aras or Laku.
3. A description according to the second list of characteristics. This is a list of 7 descriptions.
You will see different combinations of 2 and 3. By combining 1,2 and 3 the Balinese astrologer will determine the description of a certain sign.
THE TABLE TO DETERMINE YOUR BALINESE SIGN
Below you will see the table that can be used to determine your Balinese sign. However, you should know the day on which you were born according to the calender that consists out of 7 days and the calender that consists out of 5 days.
According to the Balinese each day is a certain expression of the demon Buta Ulu. This is shown in the red beam. For example: Monday is regarded as the demon Buta Ulu in the shape of an elephant.
Each day knows a certain symbol in the shape of a deity, tree, bird and animal (note that this animal is not the same as the shape of Buta Ulu of a certain day). The appearances of Buta Ulu are shown in the lowest row of the figure you see above.
It is auspicious to worship the deity of the day on which you were born according to the 7 days week and to surround yourself with the fitting tree, bird and animal. For example: keeping a cat is especially auspicious for people born on a Thursday.
An example of the use of the table: Suppose you are born on a Sunday (redite) and on the first day of the week of five days called Umanis. In that case your bintang is Kal Sungsang.
The symbol of this sign can be seen in the second row and the first column of the figure you see above (the first row in that figure gives an artistic impression of the days in the form of the different shapes of Buta Ulu).
The character of somebody with the combination Redite – Umanis can be determined by combining the descriptions which are given underneath the table of Laku Pandita Sakti and Sumur Sinaba with the description of the bintang (in this case Kala Sungsang).
Some descriptions (which are determined by tradition) are rather negative. For the sake of authenticity I have given the traditional descriptions. However, my opinion is that the best way to come into contact with your Balinese sign is to meditate on the deeper meanings of the symbols of your sign. For example the description of Laku Api is radical, angry, jealous. However, by contemplating upon the symbol of Laku Api, which is fire, you come into contact with the essence of that symbol and you will see possibilities to use the energy of that sign wisely (for example by undertaking initiatives, bringing renewal).
Every Balinese sign knows 3 symbols: the symbol of the Bintang, the symbol out of the first group of characteristics and the symbol out of the second group of characteristics. By meditating on the essence of those symbols and by thinking on the good and best use of that symbol you are able to use the energy of your Balinese sign well.
In the table first the bintang is mentioned, next the first characteristic (printed in blue) and lastly the second characteristic.

Solves problems easily, has a lot of friends, gives attention to the public, but has a tendency to neglect the welfare of his family.
Aras Tuding: Touched by the pointer
Brave, social, has many wishes and passions.
Laku Air: Like water
Quiet, behaves well, wants to be the leader, makes sometimes arguments with his or her spouse, is not easily influenced by others.
Laku Angin: Like the wind
Cannot keep quiet, tendency to exaggerate, needs compliments, sometimes a bit superficial.
Laku Api: Like fire
Radical, angry, jealous, not modest.
Laku Bintang: Like a star
Quiet, has a talent for making sales, has strong opinions.
Laku Bulan: Like the Moon
Good worker, smart, has a lot of knowledge, takes life in a light way and is satisfied.
Laku Bumi: Like the Earth
Takes decisions in a hurry, has difficulties with making friends, like to mix with women, quiet, stable.
Laku Surya: Like the Sun
Intelligent, well-mannered, responsible, like to give information.
Laku Pnadita Sakti: Like a powerful priest
Thinks that his problems are easy to solve, intelligent, but vain, like mysticism, well known person.

Lebu Ketiup Angin: Dust blown by the wind
Not steady , adapts to changing circumstances.
Satria Wibawa: Ruler with authority, who lives in great wealth
Brave, happy and extravagant life, open person, hides nothing, can enjoy earthly pleasures.
Satria Wirang: Angry ruler
The person can become mad easily. The person is defiant from the norm.
Sumur Sinaba: Full well
Has a lot of emotions and can get disappointed..
Tunggak Semi: Stem of a flower bud
Likes a high position and keeps his own point of view
Wisesa Segara: Magical, powerful sea
Has a lot of influence, able to forgive.
